All file formats can be uploaded and sent through a job in Vodori. However, only certain file formats can be viewed and annotated on in the Viewer. Annotations are used for both substantiation and reviewer comments.
When you upload a supported file format in Vodori, the system generates a PDF-based rendition.
Vodori uses resolution-independent renditions that are designed to scale gracefully across devices and screen sizes—meaning they aren’t tied to print dimensions and remain visually consistent regardless of the file size or viewing context.

Tips for Optimizing Your File
1. Export Directly from Source Applications
Always export PDFs from native authoring tools rather than printing or scanning:
- From Word, PowerPoint, or Adobe: use File → Save As → PDF or File → Export → Create PDF/XPS.
- Avoid “Print to PDF,” which often flattens text into images.
- When exporting, select “Preserve accessibility” or “Include document structure tags for accessibility” if available — these embed a proper text layer.
2. Enable OCR for Existing Flat PDFs
If you receive a “flat” or image-based file:
- Open it in Adobe Acrobat → Scan & OCR → Recognize Text → In This File.
- Save the OCRed version before uploading to Vodori.
3. Avoid Scanning Physical Documents
Scanned documents and screenshots are image-only files that don’t include a text layer. You can try following the steps above to enable OCR, though results are often less accurate.
Unsupported Viewer File Formats
File formats not natively supported by the Viewer can still be uploaded as a document and submitted for review. In these cases, you can upload your own rendition to ensure the file can be annotated on.
If you choose not to upload your own rendition, you can instead add general annotations, substantiation, and supporting material in the side panel.
When uploading a larger file into the system, you might receive a 500 error on the screen which may happen when a file is over 100mbps. This error indicates that a timeout occurred when attempting to upload the larger file. The resolution to this is to check back into your job after 5 minutes for that file to finishing rendering in the viewer. Documents uploaded through the supported documents tab in Vodori have a max upload file size of 5GB.
Web pages
Web pages and other digital content can be added to the Library using the Vodori Web Annotations browser extension.
